Our fourth and final Fall Championship at Trophy Club golf course was one of our most memorable in our tour’s history.  The two day tournament got off to an amazing start with a 73(+1) from our round one leader, Colin Brooks.  Day two was filled with drama as the final two groups were playing not only for the title but also for our Points Championship (Recognizing the best player over the course of all four Fall Championships.)  Colin Brooks held a three shot lead heading into the 16^th, a par five reachable in two shots with a good drive.  This hole is truly risk reward as there is a small creek that lines the left side of the hole all the way up through the green.  Colin’s drive however went left into that creek.  Walking up Brooks was not expecting the golf ball to be found, but to his surprise the ball was sitting up on the shore of the water.  He took off his shoes and rolled up his pant legs to his knees as he went down into the creek.  His feet started to sink, but Colin’s confidence never waivered as he tried to strike the ball.  His confidence in himself was in the right place, but unfortunately as he struck the ball, it hit the wall of the creek bed and the ball sank into the water never to be hit again.  He would take a drop and go on to make a double bogey on the hole.  His lead was now down to one.  

On the next hole Brooks didn’t get down on himself or his game.  He struck what was easily the closest shot of the day to the elevated green of the par 3 seventeenth.  The ball landed and sat just over five feet from the hole.  He showed even more guts on the 18^th as he was able to hit the green in regulation from a fairway bunker and two putt for the victory.  Colin shot 79 for a two day total of 152.  Congratulations to Colin Brooks, our winner of our fourth Fall Championship at Trophy Club!!! 

Connor Jones (pictured above) finished in second place with an impressive second day 76.  Jones was one of several players not only in contention for the win but also for the Point Champion title.  Connor's high point during the 2011 IFPGT season was his win at Twin Bridges GC.

Jon Williams’ steady play in our Fall Championships awarded him as our Points Champion of the 2011 IFPGT season.  He managed to beat Connor Jones by two points to win the prestigious honor.  Williams joins a list of other notable alumni to have received this award including current Purdue golfer Tyler Duncan.  Congratulations Jon Williams!  

One word describes our third Fall Championship at Timbergate golf course...Windy.  Both Saturday and Sunday the wind howled and caused the players to constantly question their club selection on each approach shot.  But some players faired well under the windy conditions.  Including Michael Lorenzano (pictured above), who wasn’t sure until Wednesday night if he could even play because he was scheduled to work on Saturday.  But luckily, he found someone to cover for him and it gave Lorenzano an opportunity, a chance.  He made the most of it as he shot 77 the first round and 76 on day two to win the third Fall Championship by 2 shots.  Spectators were impressed with Lorenzano’s length off the tee and his incredible touch with his putter.  Congratulations Mikey Lorenzano!




Another player who seemed to thrive in the conditions was our second place finisher, Anthony Zachman (pictured above.)  His second round got off to an incredible start as he birdied the first two holes out of the gate.  Zachman was our round one leader with a score of 76.

It was possibly the best weather in our nine year history for the Indy Fall Prep Golf Tour.  This was our first year at Woodwind Golf Club, and we couldn’t have asked for a better finish.  The final pairing included three players (Jon Williams, Broden Chapman, and Tony Rogers) who were all within two shots of each other most of the round.  But Tony Rogers prevailed with clutch play including a birdie on the difficult par 4 15^th hole.  His amazing length off the tee and his serious demeanor on the golf course were keys to his great play this weekend.  Rogers backed up his first round of 75 with an even more impressive 74 for a total of 149 to win our second Fall Championship at Woodwind GC.  Congratulations Tony Rogers!!!

Congratulations to Connor Jones (pictured above) for winning our first 36 hole Fall Championship at Twin Bridges G.C.!  Jones shot back-to-back 77's in windy conditions to tie Andrew Derringer with a total of 154 for 36 holes.  The tie between the 2 players led to our third sudden death playoff in a row this year!  In the playoff, Connor managed to make a slippery downhill six foot putt for par on the first hole to extend the playoff.  On the next tee, Jones nearly drove the par four second hole with a drive measuring well over 300 yards.  He was shocked to see his ball so close to the green.  "I thought I hit a sprinkler head," Jones said after the playoff.  He knocked it on and two putted to win our first Fall Championship of the year.  Congrats again to our winner Connor Jones!              


    


Andrew Derringer (pictured above) carded the best round of the second day with a 75 to get into the playoff.  Derringer was "Steady all day," according to a spectator watching his round.

Congratulations to Chandler Mitchell (pictured above) on his win in our 2nd Fall Tune-Up Event held at West Chase Golf Club!  Chandler shot a 76 in rainy conditions and won in a playoff.  He rallied on the back nine with several birdies on his way to his win.  In our first two events this season, both have required a playoff.  This week we start our 36 hole championships at Twin Bridges Golf Club, and we hope the great play and dramatic finishes continue.  See you all soon. -J.L.  

Our ninth season got off to an amazing start with some great play, including two 73's from Jackson Wright and Dan Cohoat.  The tie between the two players forced a sudden death playoff which turned out to be one of the best in our tour's history.  Jackson Wright (pictured above) managed to stay calm under the pressure as he had to chip under a tree and over a bunker to give himself a chance in the playoff on the first hole.  Wright followed up his chip with a clutch two putt from across the green.  Congratulations Jackson Wright for winning our first Fall Tune-Up Event at Fox Prairie G.C.! -J.L.
